How it works

  • Collaborative work: I will work closely with you or your parents, teachers, and learning specialists to focus on your or your child’s educational needs.
  • I’m committed to create a comfortable, supportive, and safe learning environment.
  • My mentoring approach is based on attentive listening and customization according to the student’s needs and the unique way in which she or he learns.
  • When addressing specific challenges, I’ll help the student develop the ability to break down problems and identify strategies to solve them.
  • Helping the student to build confidence is one of my main strategic goals. I strongly believe that fostering independence, confidence, and resourcefulness is the most important contribution I can make working with your child.

Are we a match? Please note: here, "we" refers to myself, the students in need of tutoring, and the parent(s).

 

       Our collaboration will be successful if:

 

  • More than a tutor, you want to work with a mentor: someone who takes the learner's passions and aspirations into account every step of the way, who inspires confidence and helps her or him see their worth, potential, and uniqueness.

  • It’s important for you to work with someone who sincerely cares about this student.

  • You want your child to enjoy this extra hour-or-so of work, and ultimately feel like learning can be fun and a great way to navigate the world.

  • You understand that everyone has unique ways (visual, auditory, tactile, etc) they see and understand information and the world around them. Therefore, it’s important for you to work with someone who can relate to that and devise effective strategies for communicating with the student.

  • You value respect for individuality and understand how important that is in any relationship, including between teacher and student.

  • You see this more as a chance to increase the student's overall confidence to face the challenges that come with growing up, more than just a way to get better grades.

  • You believe that education is a long-term process and that you, as a parent, are an essential part of it.

Services

  • One-on-one, in-person, at-home or in-school 60-90 minute sessions

  • Academic support for students attending or aspiring to enter AP (Advanced Placement) Science programs (grades 8-12)

  • Support for students who need to make up work during the summer or who wish to be prepared for the fall curriculum ahead (grades 8-12)

  • Undergraduate students: introductory Biology (Bio 101 , 102), all topics within Biology majors

Há 10 anos, quando vim morar e trabalhar como cientista em universidades nos EUA, eu experimentei o desafio de vivenciar um idioma que ainda não dominava totalmente. Sei muito bem o quanto podemos perder da expêriencia de estudar ou trabalhar fora enquanto o idioma ainda não está "lá aquelas coisas"! Daí a importância de ter recursos pra ajudar a navegar esta fase transitória de assimilação do inglês.
